Where are the entrances to Asakusa Underground Shopping Street?
Many visitors heading to Senso-ji Temple walk right over it without realizing that a retro underground arcade is hidden beneath their feet.
Just go down one of the stairways near Asakusa Station, and the atmosphere instantly changes to a nostalgic, old-school vibe.
Asakusa Underground Shopping Street runs beneath Kaminarimon Street, stretching from around Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Asakusa Station to the Tobu Asakusa Station area.
There are a total of four entrances, so you can enter either from street level or directly from inside the station.
Ground-level entrances
- In front of Tobu Asakusa Station (near Matsuya Department Store)
- Near the entrance of Shin-Nakamise Shopping Street
Underground entrances (Asakusa Station)
- From Tokyo Metro Ginza Line: stairs leading down near Exit 6
- From Tobu Railway: via the underground passage connecting to the Ginza Line
Pro Tip
There are several stations in Asakusa operated by different lines (Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway, Tobu Railway).
The easiest access to the underground shopping street is from the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line concourse.
If you’re coming from another area, taking the Ginza Line to Asakusa Station and entering directly from the station is the simplest route.
If you’re already exploring Asakusa on foot, look for the entrances near Matsuya Department Store or along Shin-Nakamise Street.
