Asakusa Underground Shopping Street
Asakusa Underground Shopping Street began construction in 1953 and officially opened in 1955, making it one of the oldest underground shopping streets in Japan. Directly connected to Exit 6 of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, it is currently home to around 20 shops and restaurants.
In recent years, the underground street has gained international recognition as one of the filming locations for the movie Perfect Days, directed by Wim Wenders and starring Koji Yakusho. Since then, it has become a popular destination for visitors from around the world. It also continues to be used as a filming location for television dramas and commercials.
The shopping street preserves the nostalgic atmosphere of Japan’s Showa era, offering visitors a unique glimpse into old Tokyo. Here you will find traditional soba restaurants, ramen shops, famous yakisoba stalls, wine bars, bars, international restaurants, used vinyl record stores, and the Thailand Information Center—all at affordable prices.
